Kardamena (Greek: Καρδάμενα), is a small Greek village 7 km from Kos Island International Airport at Antimachia, situated mid-way along the south coast of the island of Kos. Once a small fishing village, it has emerged as one of the most popular summer destinations, especially for British tourists, over the past two decades, offering scores of pubs and restaurants, bars and night clubs and water sports facilities. It reported a population of 1,783 inhabitants at the 2001 census and has a land area of 35.150 km².

Kardamaina is built on the site of the ancient settlement of Alasarna. During the 2nd century BC, Alasarna was an important urban center with one thousand citizens, to whom the slaves and the metics should be added.

The archaeological excavations have brought to light some impressive ruins. A Temple of Apollo, an extensive Early Christian settlement (from the very few known in Greece), as well as four basilicas that belong to the same period. Also many stone objects of everyday use (millstones, tools, vases, vessels, etc.), mostly made of volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been recovered so far.

SunBeam on the Beach: A delight to brighten any holiday.

review: Kennyfarmer

5/5
We have just returned for a 2 week stay at the Sunbeam Apart Hotel. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel welcome by Andreas and his wonderful family. Rooms Lovely size room with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Some really nice touches with all the things you expect. TV, safe, Air con (35e one week or 60e two weeks) hair dryer, soap dispenser and washing up liquid. The room was very clean on arrival and cleaned everyday apart from Mondays. The whole complex was kept very clean. The only negative was the beds were a little lumpy and probably need a mattress change for next season. We stayed in room 103 and had the most beautiful view that you could wish for. Food As good as value you'll get anywhere in Kardamena. We ate here everyday for breakfast and a few evening meals. People return night after night and day after day to eat here and to be in the company of Andreas and his family. Many of them are returning guests year after year. You couldn't get a more perfect setting. A standard breakfast was 2 rashers of quality back bacon, Sausage, 2 eggs, Hash browns, Beans, Plumed tomatoes,Coffee, 2 rounds of toast, jam, croissant, biscuit, Orange juice and a mug of coffee all for 5.50 Euros. The other meals on offer was of equal value and the quality exceptional. Good varied menu. Also served the best pint of draught Mythos. Beach At the front and to the side of the apartments are sunbeds to use free of charge to guests and customers of the restaurant. This was a lovely sandy area to sit and soak up the sun. Area was very relaxing and felt very safe and had no problem or worries going for a dip in the sea which was accessed down a few steps with hand rails, into the sea. And the sea.... my gosh it was cool when you first get in, but once in, it was really great. I think this is because you go directly into around 3 foot of water and haven't got the shallow walk in from the beach. It was a beautiful way of cooling off. Also shower available on the beach front. The hosts This what made the holiday for us. Andreas and his lovely family. Always greeted you with a big smile and a "Kalimera" or a "kalinychta". We loved everything about the holiday and the time we spent there. At no time I wanted to be home like other holidays which I have been on and this was purely down to the great hospitality that all the family gave to us. Thank you Andreas and your family for making sure we had the best time ever at your wonderful hotel. Please remember us for when we return. 2 Breakfast, One with no eggs, Tea.. And coffee after the breakfast. And some ice cold "Green tea" Kenny & Jean
