Kardamena (Greek: Καρδάμενα), is a small Greek village 7 km from Kos Island International Airport at Antimachia, situated mid-way along the south coast of the island of Kos. Once a small fishing village, it has emerged as one of the most popular summer destinations, especially for British tourists, over the past two decades, offering scores of pubs and restaurants, bars and night clubs and water sports facilities. It reported a population of 1,783 inhabitants at the 2001 census and has a land area of 35.150 km².

Kardamaina is built on the site of the ancient settlement of Alasarna. During the 2nd century BC, Alasarna was an important urban center with one thousand citizens, to whom the slaves and the metics should be added.

The archaeological excavations have brought to light some impressive ruins. A Temple of Apollo, an extensive Early Christian settlement (from the very few known in Greece), as well as four basilicas that belong to the same period. Also many stone objects of everyday use (millstones, tools, vases, vessels, etc.), mostly made of volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been recovered so far.

Myself and my friend have just got back from a 7 day stay at the Sunbeam and absolutely loved it! It was our first time in Kos and there is no doubt we will be returning to the island and to the Sunbeam! Andreas is a dreamboat! Always so friendly and welcoming, he made is feel right at home soon as we arrived and looked after us throughout the whole stay. I've never seen anyone work so hard in my life, he doesn't moan or complain and always has a smile even with the occasional rude customer. The rooms were simple but immaculate, I have no complaints, if people are more concerned about luxurious rooms then they are in the wrong place, why would you want to sit in your room when you're on the most beautiful island! Fresh towels and linen everyday from Ophelia, who again is very friendly. A lot of people in the hotel are returning customers and told us that they have been coming to the sunbeam for years because of Andreas. Hopefully one day I will be proud enough to be part of the returning customers. It was almost like a family away from home. The food is excellent! The portions are huge but always delicious, we tried a few different restaurants over our stay but came to the conclusion that the food and service was better at the sunbeam and made the decision to eat every meal there. Full English breakfast was like heaven on a plate, just like home except you get a hell of a lot more for your money. Greek yoghurt honey and fruit is a must, as well as the beef stifado and souvlaki. The homemade Ravani cake and ice cream is to die for. The endless list of praise goes on. I can't wait to go back within the next couple of months and would just like to address the negative reviews people write, shame on all of you that made negative comments. The Sunbeam and Andreas are faultless, but I guess some people just like to complain for the sake of it.
