Kardamena (Greek: Καρδάμενα), is a small Greek village 7 km from Kos Island International Airport at Antimachia, situated mid-way along the south coast of the island of Kos. Once a small fishing village, it has emerged as one of the most popular summer destinations, especially for British tourists, over the past two decades, offering scores of pubs and restaurants, bars and night clubs and water sports facilities. It reported a population of 1,783 inhabitants at the 2001 census and has a land area of 35.150 km².

Kardamaina is built on the site of the ancient settlement of Alasarna. During the 2nd century BC, Alasarna was an important urban center with one thousand citizens, to whom the slaves and the metics should be added.

The archaeological excavations have brought to light some impressive ruins. A Temple of Apollo, an extensive Early Christian settlement (from the very few known in Greece), as well as four basilicas that belong to the same period. Also many stone objects of everyday use (millstones, tools, vases, vessels, etc.), mostly made of volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been recovered so far.

SunBeam Hotel Apart - Beach Bar: Great stay and would return!

"Had a great stay at Sunbeam with my friends. The rooms are basic but very clean. If you are going in summer I would recommend hiring a fan from the cleaner for 10 euro a week as it does get very hot. We had a sea view from our balcony which was lovely to sit out on in the afternoon. Andreas and his family couldn't do enough for us. We ate at sunbeam most days for breakfast and had dinner there one night. Dinner in particular for great value for money and I could recommend his beef stiffado! It was great having the beach on our doorstep and there were always enough sun beds to accommodate 6 of us being together! Would definitely return again!"

SunBeam Hotel Apart - Beach Bar: 5* Service

5/5 by DJJazzyChrisJun 2014"Rooms offer basic accommodation but they are clean and spacious and all you need is provided for such as fridge, microwave etc. Most rooms have fantastic sea views (we stayed in room 11) across the bay. What makes the difference is Andreas and his family. He is truly excellent and makes you feel very welcome. Nothing is too much for him such as arranging sun beds for you on the beach, letting you settle your bar bill later in the day. His son had a birthday while we were there and he laid on a big buffet for all his family and the guests! We were going to have a meal out but we didn't need to in the end as we were full on the lovely food and birthday cake!

When it came to leave, we asked Andreas to organise a cab to the airport but he ended up asking his wife to drop us off on her way home! Really helped end the holiday on a high and sums up the wonderful attention you receive from him and his family.

Would highly recommend this small, family run hotel to anyone wanting a cheap and cheerful getaway. We will definitely consider returning later in the year."
